T-20 Questions

Decided to take a break from the F-14 this afternoon, so I tore into the T-20 to see how much work it was going to be. During the teardown I noticed several puzzling things...

1. The shaft for the waterpump attatches in front of the fan and is cushioned with springs, which allows front to back movement. Is this part of a thermostat system ?

2. The intake ports between the manifold and the head have sleeves in them. I was able to look at the sleeve for #3 and #4 and noticed it restricted the port size from 1-1/4" to less than 1". Does someone know why they would do that?

I hope someone knows what I saw today.

Thanks in advance.

Dan

The sleeves(venturies) are there for running the engine on Kero. You can take them out if your going to burn gas.

the springs are to hold the impeller against the seal in the water pump. If it has a themostat it will be in the upper pipe. I don't know why the aluminum sleeves are used in the intake ports but all the F20s have them.
