Can anyone tell me what my smta (gas) is approximately worth? As far as I can tell, it has never been restored. The tin is in good shape, good rubber, converted to altenater, but still have generator, runs good, ta works. Have fast hitch w/3-pt conv. & saginaw 3-pt. Not that I really want to get rid of her, but just was wondering.

For those familiar with what a SMTA is, I bet it would bring $2500-$3000 at auction, more if two people want it real bad. $5000 restored.

CNKS - what do you think the difference generally is between an auction and selling via the paper, etc?

I don't know. With the paper, the buyer has more time to think about it and negotiate. At an auction, particularly one some distance from where you live, there is less time to think and evaluate the tractor. I hate negotiations. Some people have a lot of fun with them. Since I know I will have to pay more to fix the tractor up than it costs, anyway, I would prefer to buy at auction. But, the cheapest tractor I have was a private deal. However, SMTA's are rarer than the other letter series, they will sell for more, and cost as much or more to repair as another letter series tractor. People, including me, sometimes pay too much at auction, because they are bidding against another crazy person. But the negotiation is over in a hurry.
