I have a 42 H wide front (old style, long wheelbase) with a 33-A McCormick Power Loader. Big bucket, 8 ft. wide. Run off belly pump right now. I was really working her today, clearing trees, pushing down dead ones, finishing up a burn pile, skidding logs for my log home, etc. All day long. Anyway, one of the support pipes that run from the upright bracket of the loader frame to the front of the tractor snapped the large center bolt off. Brand new grade 5 with threads all the way through. Anybody ever have problems like this? Guess I shoulda put in grade 8, huh? Will tomorrow, just want to find out if this might be a weak link that I need to compensate for.

May I say that I would rather have a cheaper bolt break off in that spot, than have the loader or tractor break. It isn't a bulldozer, you know.
good luck

That's a good point! Use it like a shear bolt on a pto shaft, etc. Good thinking.

Was this a "real" grade 5 bolt or a TSC grade 5 bolt? I have found the TSC bolts to be a bit soft.

Got the bolts from the local hardware store. As far as I know they're "real" grade 5. Didn't realize about CTS, thanks for the tip.

np, TSC bolts are cheaper than most places and seem just a bit softer too. I use quite a few of their bolts though because of the cost savings, but use good bolts or the higher grades of TSC bolts in critical applications.

I have seen that same bracket with a plate welded to the back of it that reached to other holes also that are in the front sides of the tractor along with still having the original big bolt thru the plate. FYI

See Ya , Tim K.
