Thanks Stan for the governor bearing part number...
I have another question, that maybe you can help with.
Without measuring it, I'm guessing that the "Speed Change" lever shaft is about an inch and 1/2 long.
Where it goes into the housing there is a seal and then maybe a 1/4 thickness of housing, but there are no spacers etc, which allows a lot of end play..... I understand that the spring is going to "more or less" hold it in one place, but it just seems like there is "a lot of shaft" with very little support in the middle.
I'm just wondering if something is missing from mine.

I intended to order a parts manual from Binder Books after I got home from work this evening, but got involved in spray painting my block and and several other parts and forgot.

Back to the bearing, I'm going to try "prick punching" the race as Bob suggested. The bearings and other parts look to be in good shape, but 2 of the balls fall out.

Thanks for your help !
Gary

I see a seal + retainer that is replaced with just a new seal number 149345R91, and spring washers (2) 355476R1 in the parts book. I have seen the sloppy input shaft you're talking about, but the only ones I have here to look at at the moment are not showing that slop. Both are rusted, one is a later (230/240) unit with I think more beef around that shaft, and the other is low use off a power unit, again too rusted to see the details at the moment. It appears that the spring washers are not needed in the later governor housing.
