I feel like a stranger in a strange land; I'm an Oliver collector. My father-in-law owns a Farmall 400 however and would like for me to install a block heater before the snow flies. My Olivers have several plugs in the block to install tank heaters but all I have seen on this block is one plug for removing fluid. Does any one know if a single element block heater is avaliable for this engine? Any help would be great.

Mount a tank heater inside the frame on the left side, the inlet for the heater is plumbed into the lower block drain and the output hose goes to the temp sensor bung, use a tee at the temp sensor and another at the drain for a better installation.

Get a external tank heater and mount it on the carburator side of the engine. Plumb the the heater by running a hose from the temp sensor fitting in the cylinder head. You'll have to add a "t" fitting to retain the temp sensor. Run the other hose from the water jacket drain plug on the side of the engine block (behind the carburator) to the other output of the tank heater.

find a freeze plug heater and put it where one of the freeze plugs are, saves on plumbing and hoses tearing off by whaterver. Got them on all our tractors including the big ones.x

Other people may have better ideas but most of the time you have to remove the temperature gauge element and put a pipe tee in the block. You can put the element in one end and the other heater hose in the other.
