I am still "on the fence" so to speak about which tractor would be more usful and user friendly. I got to do a little baling this weekend on a friends tractor. It was a compact and I do mean compact 20hp diesel 2wd. It was all it could do to lug a running baler up a small grade and keep baling. I want to buy a larger tractor and help bale and mow. I like the looks of the 460/560 but I am not sure if they had independant pto's or not. This little tractor did not and I had to yank it out of gear when baler filled up a heavy. Major pain. I know I want a diesel and independant pto and hydraulics. I think the 56 series might be a little more accomodating. I know the 460/560 does not have factory 3pt. but I am not sure if the 56 series does or not. Which tractor do you all like. I would like the 560D tricycle for tractor pulling but not for the work I will be doing. Some of the terrain is quite hilly. Give me some feed back please. Thanks DANWV

You need to decide how much tractor is too much. 06, 26, and 56 series are great, but they are heavy, powerful tractors and are more than you need just to do a little cutting and baling. 460 and 560 are both about right for that kind of work. They do have independent PTO, and the 2-point Fast Hitch was a common option, it can be converted to 3-point quickly and easily. Another good choice is somthing in the 544, 656, 666, 686 family, a little more user friendly than the 60 series, but those tractors are in such high demand that they are too expensive just to do a little baling. 656 would be about the cheapest one in that line. As for 3-point hitch, it was always only an option, we have a 706 with no 3-point. For you, I would suggest 460, 560, 656, and mabey 706 at the very most.

Both the 06 and 56 series were far superior to the 560 in my opinion. The 4/560 have live pto. I think that by the 56 series all were 3 point but the 06 were 2 or 3. I had adaptors for my 560 that let the 2 point act acceptably as a 3.

just depends how much money you want to spend. I just love my 656 diesel. The 656 was built in a gas version too. Independant PTO, 3pt hitch, power steering. Hard to beat. There were utility versions if you want a lower tractor. Will pull 4 plows. I run a big round baler, 14 foot swather, 12ft disk.

I also have a 656D wide front and it's a great all around tractor. Big enough to pull a 4 btm, 12' disk and a haybine, but small enough to tug the baler and rake around in tight spots. I had a 450 gas that worked good, but the 656 is much more modern and nicer to run. Also won't drain your savings to fix it like a bigger machine. I bought mine for $5200 just this spring. I'm in central pa where these size tractors are still in high demand. Sty away from the Hydro's unless you want big $$$ in repairs when the tranny takes a dump.
