IH 46 Bale size too short

I've got an International 46 twine baler that is making inconsistent length bales. Most of the time they are short.

I was wondering how many sheave washers are supposed to be used between the two sheaves. I'm currently running with one washer. It looks as though the trip arm may be getting squeezed by the sheaves (not enough space between the sheaves?) and causing the bales to be different sizes.

If anyone knows how many sheave washers should be used on this baler, let me know.

Thanks,

Aaron

Hi, we bought an IH46 new back in the late 1950's or early 1960's. It would occassionally throw about 1 short bale per 100 bales. It appeared that the trip lever would occassionally not drop all the way down to the length adjustment stop.
Also I seem to remember there was a return spring attached to the trip lever. To diagnose your problem, you will have to have someone ride on the baler and observe what is giong wrong.

Good luck
Jb

Don't know about sheave washers, all I know is when we changed bale lengths on our 46, we loosened the lock screw and slid the collar up for longer and down for shorter. Make sure it is well tightened when you're done.

Just to add...

Is the trip arm supposed to ride on the sheaves or the sheave washer?
