Am presently building up one H out of two, I get the best of both, my mechanical neighbor gets the "carcass", {though complete}. Anyway I was wondering if there was something special I should keep, looks like I'm going to end up with the 48, it does have the better seat, throttle assembly, ect. He got the radiator off the 45 bolster in 10 minutes, useing a side cutters, small punch and a hammer! Anyhow, soon will have a Red one rolling soon,,, thanks.

I would be interested in finding out if your 45 H had a steel knob on gear shift. Its my understanding that during the war they installed steel knobs.

I have a 04, 1948 with a rubber knob, and I remember the 1944 H that was delivered to my Dad on D-day had the steel knob.

My 43 H has a rubber knob. Rubber might have been in shorter supply by 44.

The only difference is the decals, and what came on the tractor when new. 45 should say McCormick Deering Farmall, 48 says IH McCormick Deering Farmall. If the shock is behind the seat it is a Monroe seat (not in parts book), the IH seat has the shock under the seat. The "standard" seat has a tool box under it and a small spring in front. Better throttle? OEM had teeth, replacement IH had slots (same design otherwise). Friction throttle with long lever is aftermarket. Do both/either have distributer or mag? Gasoline or distillate/kerosene engine? Gasoline will have slightly more power than a distillate or kerosene engine run on gas.

The only difference might be the location of the shock on the seat. The charging system might be alittle different, Front wheels might be different, clamp on versus bolt on. And possibly rear rim width. Oh, and possibly pto size
