I have to replace the timing gears on my C. It looks like I'll have to unbolt the front bolster in order to get the bolts out of the front engine cover, is this true or is there another, easier, way of doing this. thanks for any help.

carfull going back on with it. If you can get it back on without a wood block and a good hammer its too loose and will work loose. burr up the shaft with a sharp punch too make it fit tight.

The short answer is yes. You will have to remove the grill, raditor, fan, lower water outlet, upper water intake, take the steering shaft loose, block up the tractor, remove the front bolster and wheels, and the govenor.

Now you are ready to take the front pully off, some of them have set screws, some don't, check yours out. You will need a split bearing puller and a two or three jaw gear puller. (If you try to take it off without a split bearing puller add the cost of a new pully to your project.) In most cases you will need to heat the hub of the pully in order to get it to come off. Now you can remove the front cover and you are there at the core of your problem.

GOOD LUCK

I can second that notion about the value of a split bearing puller...didn't have one this weekend, gave it a go ahead anyway. Two hours later, I was tired, frustrated, and the broken pulley was still where it was when I started.

NOW I'll go find the tool I need...ug.

You are rite the front assy has to come off so you can remove the front pulley. Then you can remove the front cover and see where your problems are. BETTER get a manual as it sounds like you are not sure of what to do and you will need it to get everything back in correct registration or you will never get it to run again. The manual will show the timing marks as you cannot see them once th front cover is back on. Do it correct and you will avoid a big mess.

On that front pulley thing, I think that there is a set screw that must be backed off. I worked on mine half a day before cleaning off the old grease and seeing the screw. Then mine slid right off. The pulley is kind of fragile so be careful prying on it.

You got it right. Have fun pulling the frt pulley. It may be tight. Press fit you know.
