Interesting problem with my 140. When I push the choke all the way in the tractor idles down and misses. When I pull the choke half way out it idles up and runs without a miss. The choke does work. When I pull it all the way out, it will choke the engine. Plan to rebuild the carb. What should I look for inside? Thanks for your help in advance. Season's Greetings to all....Gerald

Your problem is probably dirt, water or stale gas, and maybe all three. I have 3 of these tractors and over years have run into all; the dirt, the water and the stale gas. Carb, tank and lines all need cleaning. when you put it back together have screen in sediment bowl and add an inline filter between there and carb.

These tractors have less problem when worked every day. I use to use these tractors commercially and rarely ever had a problem. Problem when only used ocasionally, if you leave them full of gas it goes stale. If you leave them empty rust flakes form on inside of tank, as well as condensation. I once didn't start my SA for 6 months, was full of gas, Screen in sediment bowl was completely sealed with shelac. I have left them with little gas in them and bingo the problem is water. I now get mine out every two weeks and just take them for a drive. These old tractors are much like ourselves, they need exercise. And we thought they were a big change from the horse.
