rk: I've seen the Shepard diesel M and read a story about the company. The engine was OK but sales force was too small and cost too high. G

I have copies of a Detroit Diesel bulletins showing how to install a 2/53 Detroit in a M. They also made a kit for a F30, 22-36,, W6, Case LA Moline G, unstyled 99 Oliver. Had a LA with a 3/71,have a LA with a 4/71 and a LAI with a 3/71 in our club. They had a kit for a D Case but don't have any info on that. Later Bill

I believe there was also a 2-cycle screamin' Jimmy conversion, but have never actually seen a picture of one or anything. I have heard a lot of comments on how the diesel engine conversions could turn an M into an H. This is difficult to understand as the 3-71 Detroit in a Super 99 Oliver puts out around 80 horses. Maybe the M just had a 2-71?

As for conversion kits today, the only conversion I know of for old tractors is a diesel engine for an Allis Chalmers G. However, with a little machine work and an adapter plate you could put anything you want in an M. I have seen a few V-8 conversions.

Hey Steven, is that engine diesel or gas? How many cubes? It really looks sharp, obviously someone wanted a Super M with a V8 rather than a V8 in a Super M, if you know what I mean. I like the decals, too. It's not yours, is it?

There is an M currently on Ebay with a Ford 302 V-8 for sale. Do an Ebay search on "Farmall M Ford." Notice the hole in the rail. Reckon that kinda compromises the structural integrity???
