Finally found the problem - the valves clearances were all out of adjustment. One push rod had come off, leaving an exhaust valve not functioning. The lock nut had come loose and fallen off, fortunately was still sitting on the block, had not fallen down in the motor. Was able to readjust clearances,now it runs like a top again. Thanks to everyone for your suggestions!

My 350 isnt running yet because I cant decide what kind of intake and cam i should use with the twisted wedge Trickflow alum heads. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

As you struggle with machinery, you will find that the little things are the most common and easiest to repair. Big problems are just a collection of small problems neglected.

Corey's H was a classic of a whole lot of little things needing fixed piling up on one tractor. About everything I fixed on it I had done before but spread out over 3 Hs and 2 Ms. The engine rebuild was about the only thing I had not done before.
