This is an interesting discussion as I have D21 plugs in my H, M and 300U and I haven't had any problems. I had to put Champions back into my F14 as the AC sparkplugs I put in that a few years ago made starting a nightmare. Went back to the W14's and it starts right up.

You can't go wrong with AC-C86, Both my "H"and "M" had Champs in them when I bought them,I think the reason that they were sold was because they would barely run. 9 yrs now on same plugs and run as new. Both use no oil. These are working tractors.----Have a good day.

The Champion D18Y and D21 should never been put in the old 4 cylinder IH engines that is why they don't work good, see tractors that would not even start with these plugs in them.I always use UD16 in the 4 cylinders or a d16. May be champions are not as good as use to be but the D18y never worked good in the old tractors.

I have given up on Champions. I've been using AC C86 and have had super luck with them. They are equivalent to the Champion D21 in heat range.

From what I've read, Autolite 3116 are probably the best. I just bought some for my M, because I keep having problems with the Champions fouling out. You can order Autolites from Brillman Company at>Link

I've had a lot of carbon build-up on the plugs in the M. I think it may be too rich on gas also, since it doesn't seem to be burning oil. With the Champion plugs, the tractor eventually starts to miss, and when I pull the plugs out and check for spark, they all fire OK, but they seem like they don't fire under compression because it runs good if I change the plugs.

I have the same experinece.I have 2 h tractors, one has new motor and can't keep the champ plugs in it. The other runs so good, and the plugs dont last there either,I can't wait to try someting new.
