I know this will get some discussion going, and I know for many of us may take some thinking, but just out of curiosity, what's everyone's favourite farmall ever?? For me? F-12! Looking forward to the responses. Darren

I would have to say my Farmall Super MD. Its a neat little odd ball to run. I enjoy it. I think out of all the other Farmalls I've run, I'd have to say a Super C/200 comes in a close second.

Well, I grew up driving H's and Super H's and now have two H's that I'm restoring. Guess I'd have to pick the H as my favorite. Larry

Farmall 656 is my favorite. Farmall H's, 460's and 560's are right up there also in my book.

I grew up on a '51 C and loved it. Now I have a '48 M and I love it. Guess I'll have to vote for the C for old time's sake. Twas just right for our little side hill farm.

I have only owned and worked one Farmall a 1954
Super A (recently I purchased a IH444), I have
planted and worked a one row corn field for years.
I have never seen a tractor in its league for
cultivating - it was a real pleasure..

I like the looks of them all, but the 300 and 400 are my favorite. What I find the most interesting is that buy looking at the different models over the years you can see the progression of the tractor and history in general. They are all beautiful in their design. Most impressive is that they did the job in their day and still work. A true testiment to quality and durability. Farmall's are definitly the best.

Gees, that's a tough one... Farmall H is my favorite, but I'd say the Super C is right up there... as a matter of fact, if the Super C came with live pto, it would have been the ultimate little tractor

I guess I would have to go with the Farmalls with Raymond Loewy's design. The A/B/C/H/M series has timeless classic styling and I would bet around 1/2 of them are still in regular use. They are just wonderful tractors to work on and operate - new tractors have such a harsh exhaust sound because of high RPMs while the Letter Series just sound awesome in my opinion.

You make a good point Steven, and a lot of people must agree. I have been to a half dozen shows this summer, and the vast majority of IH there in all cases were the letter series. Personally I say it is part of the evolution.

For Farmalls, I'd go with the Farmall MV. If it is for all IHC tractors, I'd go with the McCormick WR-9.

My favorite, out of the ones I've run, is the 400 we have. It has tons of grunt, though it is a bit heavy on fuel. Although, the neighbors 1466 is kinda nice too.... but that is too big and new to count I think.

The development of the Farmall was an eveloution, begining in the early 1920s, and until 1939 they were a very crude but necessary device in that evolution. From 1939 onward it was improvment of basic models into the 60s. Take the A for example, as SA, 100, 130 then 140 was in there until 1979. Same can be said for the M as SM, SMTA, 400, 450, 560, 656, 666 and 686 ending again in 1979.

656 is my favourite, it is nothing more than an M with an excellent draft controlled 3 point hitch, a good comfortable operators platform, live pto, TA, and a smooth 6 cylinder engine. 56 series was the best Farmall had to offer. 56 series was very efficient tractor and that was lost on later models.

Hugh,
I agree the 56 are the best Farmall had to offer but....my favorite is the 806. Maybe just because I have one or two of them, and a 856 (just so I would have the best.)

Hugh: I'll second the 656 design and performance. There is always a compromise in all designs and the 656 seems to end up on top the most over the years. It's not my favorite but it would be my first choice to buy if profit and performance was demanded in that HP range. G.

Gene: I farmed with SA, 300, 130, 560D, 504, 656D and 1066; 1 Deere and 1 Cockshutt. I play with SA and 130. Your making me eat my words. I would love to have a 656 around, but it wouldn't get enough exercise. I would however like to have a 1/16 toy 656, no one seems to have it. They make larger, smaller, older and newer but not 656.

As art I have very strong feelings for the letter series. Lowey's Farmalls will last forever. The shows I went to this summer prove that. Same if you read posts in this discussion, letter series have it hands down.

My favorite is a 1947 Farmall M with factory WFE with a 3-point hitch driven by a Liftall unit. This tractor still works on our farm along with our new John Deeres. It will pull a 9' offset disc until it runs out of gas.

Of the four 100 series tractors I have (600D, 400D & 300 Farmall and a 300U) and I like them all I like running the 400D Farmall the best. The governer is snappy and sounds nice when you shift that TA up.
