I have a 1947 h that keeps dying after running for 5 to 10 minutes. I found the sediment bowl gasket in the bowl in various size pieces. I replaced the gasket with a new one and still have the problem. Am I correct in assuming parts of the gasket may be plugging up in the carb?

Did you check the screen that is in the fuel
inlet of the carb. and what is your float level
set at. You might want to disconnect your line
at the carb. and take a coffee can and turn the
line back on and check your gas flow that is
coming from the sediment bowl. Sometimes there
is a restriction in the bowl.

It sounds to me as though you have a plugged carburator inlet screen. This screen is easy to get to. Pull the fuel line loose from the carb. then unscrew the fitting that the fuel line was screwed into. there is a very fine meshed screen on the end of that fitting, spray it out with carburator spray cleaner and blow it out with compressed air. I think I'd also do as the others have mentioned and check the inside of the tank for debris, and pull and clean out the inlet to the fuel separator
, and blow out the fuel line. I think this should take care of your problem.

You probably have rust or dirt glob floating around and plugging the inlet in the gas tank. When your tractor's motor dies the next time, Quickly disconnect your fuel line at the carb. to see if your getting gas. If you are getting gas this far,(then it could be a sticking float or plugged carb.). Before you tear the carb. apart though, Try testing a spark plug wire for spark by cranking the engine right after it dies to see if you can get a spark to jump to the motor block. Ray

You need to take to bowl completely out of the gas tank and clean the stem. You might just as well get a new one. Check the gas line for crud in the line. Also check to make sure the gas cap vent is open. If you just painted the tractor, you may have covered the vent.
