A few days ago I posted about a B250 that hadn't run in about 8 years. I got good advice from the guy with the caterpillar experience and this morning I fired up that little diesel. We put a new battery in it and then put cables on that, kicked her over and finally I wished I had some ether and the lady who I was buying it from thought she had some in the house...pssst and the little diesel came to life smoking like a tire fire. Once it warmed up it ran great. The rear tires are like new, the fronts are serviceable but for cosmetic reasons should be replaced. It has a McCormick loader and bucket. The front grill has been damaged but appears to be repairable..if not I know Ontario Tractor Parts will have a good replacement grill. I drove the tractor around the yard and it seems to work really well. I am to pick it up next week. I want to change the oil and hydraulic fluds as well as drain the 8 year old fuel and replace it with fresh diesel. How did I do for $700???? Now here's a warning for all you guys, I put it in gear in the shed and slowly released the clutch and the tractor moved ahead, I pushed in the clutch and nothing!!! I thought I was going through the end of the shed...finally the clutch released just in the nick of time..never thought about the clutch sticking..but 8 years sitting. The only problem I can find is I am suspicious that the throw out bearing is bad in it, chatters when engaging but quiet as a mouse when the clutch is released and you are moving...are these things like an H that can be replaced by pulling the belly pan and replacing from below??I will have to get to a tractor show and get a manual for the B250, I am quite happy with today's events which I cloaked in secrecy until now. I will get some diesel fuel conditioner and oil and a fresh can of fuel for it. I will trailer it home although it is only about 10 miles from the farm. I haven't told Barb yet, she is not likey to be real happy as I just bought a new Angus bull on Thursday...the bull she can live with but the 6th tractor ..... hmmmm...anyway if I don't post within 10 days contact the Ontario Provincial police( just kidding)... another red tractor saved for future generations...the Devil made me do it...Mike in Exeter Ontario

Hope you are still around. I have the same situation - but about 10 years. I need to know what kind of battery is needed - I know it is positive "earth" or ground, but is it a 6 volt battery?

The tractor worked on my great grandfather's farm, then my Dad fixed it for keeping the driveway going on Menzies' Mountain out in Pitt Meadows, BC.

Good to hear the tractor and the barn survived.
I have a chatter in my clutch as well. Let me know how you fixed the problem. Any idea where I can get a service manual for my B250? early 50.

Sure glad you didn't run thru the end of the barn. I have a small suggestion for your clutch problem. If you have an inspection door and a squirt can with some light oil and put just a little bit on the splines of the shaft right behind the clutch disc it will help it loosen so it can release. Keep in mind you don't want so much oil that it gets on the pressure plate or the disc facings.

Sounds like a quite decent buy Mike. That little diesel is similar in lots of ways to your Farmall Hs, with 5 speed, standard pto. Big difference being the diff lock, 3 point hitch and disc brakes. Your Hs probably have band brakes. My dad had one of the later Hs, it had disc brakes.

As I said before enjoy until Oct.-Nov. then put it away for winter unless you can guarentee another Jan.- Feb. like this year.
