I recently found a McCormick pull behind mower, it has steel wheels, wooden tounge, and seems to be in working order. Does anyone have any info on these mowers such as years produced, number of them made, etc. Thanks, Darren

If it is ground-driven it is horse drawn.

If it is PTO driven, it is a tractor mower as horses never came out with PTO's.

There were thousands and thousands built.

A horse drawn mower in good shape in Oklahoma will bring $35 or more at an auction.

Sounds like you are describing a horse drawn sickle bar mower like the one I use to ride on behind a Fordson that my Grandfather drove. The wooden tounge had been cut off to hitch it to a tractor. In order to operate the mower someone had to ride it just as when it was used with horses, in order to lift the sickle bar since there were no hydraulics or hand lift on the tractor.

I have some old implement manuals. If you know the model number, it's possible I might have a manual for it.

Darren: There were quite a few models of pull behind mowers. A good source of information on this a book, 150 of International Harvester by C.H. Wendel. If you could get hold of a copy of this book there are pictures of a lot of mowers a history on them. Problem is if you don't have this book I believe it is out of print. Someone on forums was saying this. Actually nine pages of mowers, seven of them the pull behind type. If you don't find book e-mail me with as much info as possible. I have the book but no way to copy. Most of those old mowers had the model number in raised letters in casting.
