My son has torn the H down and started to sandblast and wire wheel the sheetmetal and other parts. We have unloaded the wallet on new paint from the IH/Case dealer. The question is what kind of under coat are all of you using before putting that nice pretty red stuff on? When we did the the old 47 Kb international truck we used an expoxy undercoat. Is it recommended to do the same with the tractor or can we just use a rustoleum undercoat or primer?

I always use a red primer, have had bad luck with gray when I overhauld a #37 disk. You should always try to use same brand undercoat and top coat. If you know that 2 differant brands will work ok together,go for it. Good luck, Lyle

I have always had trouble using a primer of similar color to the paint. I use a contrasting color so that I can more easily see what spots I missed. And it is easy to miss some spots on a tractor. I guess some could argue that if you did miss some spots it would not be as noticable with a similar color primer. If you are priming the whole tractor it doesn't matter what color primer you use, but if you are only priming spots use similar colored primer so that is easier to cover.
