On our 200 we have been getting a popping noise from the exhaust. Originally we were thinking it was some bad plugs and wires, or the valves needed adjustment. After doing both there was no improvement. (adjusted vales yesterday, yes hot) While I was lookig over things I noticed that the number one exhaust valve had a huge gap, but since I wasn't looking for a stuck valve i just thought it was outta adjustment, because the head was rebuilt 2 years ago and really hasn't had the hours put in it. So, to get to the point, I have an exhaust valve that is sticking in the open position and could use some suggestions on possible fixes just sort of pulling the head and fixing it. Also, at times it does clear up and not pop. Thanks for any ideas and sorry for the long post.

Well I tore off the valve cover and found that the valve wasn't stuck after all. So, out of curiosity to see what was happenning when the tractor ran me and dad started it up. Well, what do I see, the rocker arms are loose. shut the tractor off, tighten up the two nuts, restart and we have a perfect running tractor again. I was quite relieved, but felling a little dumb. Oh well, live and learn. Thanks for all the sugestions!

I am new to these parts of internet Farmall tech. I once worked on these beasts in school about 14yrs ago, now work on my semis, all diesel stuff, but a valve problem should be same gas or diesel w/ diesels eating them harder at a 14+ compression ratio. Your problem seems to change occasionally with the popping coming & leaving for a bit. A stuck valve is stuck!! A bent stem might move sometimes but not likely, because once the bent part sticks in the guide its their. A valve seat seems more likely to move around. If this were the case you need to pull the head. I know this aint fun but better than a valve busted & smashed into the piston dome. In my opinion the gasket set is cheap compared to a piston & liner, check the head out & be sure.

I'm gonna tear off the valve cover tonight and spray up the valve. Thanks for the ideas, I'll really get into it after work tomorrow. Let ya know what happens.

You can roll no.1 up on compression and take overhead valve spring compressor and remove spring and keeper. Spray with pennetrating oil and try to pull up. I have used a compression tester hose and air to help push valve up. If valve will not come up even with the others you could have seat coming loose in the head.

Put the penetrating oil to it,lots of it.What I mean is every day, every couple of hours, when ever you think of it.Don't be in a big hurry.Tap gently on end of valve with a brass hammer, piece of aluminum, etc. You might have to pry up on the retainer with a large screw driver, bar.Careful to not bend the valve stem.If you booger up the spring they are cheaper than a new head gasket and the time to R&R the head.If you can get the keepers, retainer & spring off, wrap a piece of wire around valve stem in keeper grove so you don't drop it through guide into the cylinder. Prob. wouldn't happen--BUT.You can also chuck a drill motor on end of stem and spin it in guide up & down to help losen it,after you get it unstuck.Be patient,it will come loose! Good Luck!!
