I like to take the easy route when ever possable.

Drill two small holes in the face of the seal 180o across from each other. Screw in two metal screws and then use the screws to pry out the old seal.

Tap in the new seal and your are done.

Takes about 5 minutes.

On my 41 M 3 bolts hold the seal housing in place and 5 bolts hold the whole PTO on. The old seals are about an inch thick, the new ones are about 1/4 inch thick and they are cheep so I put 2 in there.

If you are going to pull the PTO out you will need to drain the trans/rear housing. There should be about 16 gallons of gear lube in there but probably less if it has been leaking and I always find water and goopy glop ( technical term for 60 years of water, dirt, metal and oil ) in there. with the PTO out you can get your whole arm in and realy clean it out.

Enjoy
Jon
