Can't figure this one out. Been cutting tall grass all day and have found when I disengage the pto I get oil coming under pressure from the PTO breather cap, when the PTO is engaged and I am cutting it does not blow out any oil. I unscrewed the breather cap and oil came out of the hole as if it were too full.
The two things that I have done lately, but shouldn't influence this was 1. put a new breather cap on the PTO housing.
2 Was to adjust the band as it was slipping under the heavy load of tall grass.
Thought maybe the fluid level was too high, but it isn't.If any thing I would expect more so to see oil coming out while in operation.I cut for most of the day and never had any loss at all. However the trip home disengaed I probably lost a 1/2 quart. Whats up?

Another item you have to watch with that pto on 300 and others similar, is getting into deep water. Had to cross a fast flowing river one time. If you get up over that breather the unit will suck itself full of water. If not drained promptly it will do a lot of damage including the seal Steven is talking about. After that incident I always put plastic wrap with an elastic around on that breather near deep water. Water doesn't have to be that deep if there is a current.

My Super MTA also does that. I have been advised that the seal between the transmission and PTO is out and leaks into the PTO unit, thus causing the oil to push out the breather. I have the same symptoms, doesn't let any oil out when running but when disengaged the oil comes out at about 1/2 quart per hour.

Good luck.
Steven
