Calcium Chloride -- Do I need it in the tires?

It weighs it down a bit I guess, but for grass cutting and a bit of trailering is it necessary?
Why do people use it for plowing or whatever? Why would you need/want to have it?

For field and road tractoring, is it batter to have the tires full, or a little squishy, why is this?
Just looking for some answers to questions I find interesting.
Thanks for any posts!

Ok. There has been calcium chloride in the tires for years (a loooong time), when they starte getting a little squishy last year, I discovered it while trying to add air. How would I "get rid of it"? Take the wheels off and take it to a CASE-IH dealer, (or somewhere) and get them to do it?
Thanks - Frank.

My Super H has Calcium Chloride solution in the rear tires.. But then it was used for mostly heavy drawbar loads when Dad farmed with it...and now it has a loader on it. Each rear tire has about 450-500# of solution in it, the same as 3 wheel weights. I also have a set of CI weights on it and would like to find another set cheap. It has the stock size 12.4 X 38 tires on it. I agree with the others that if You don't need the weight, DON'T use the calcium chloride....

If you plan on using it to cut grass I definatly wouldn't load the tires because the tractor will cut in alot more especially when the ground is soft and make ruts. you really only need the tires loaded if you plan on running a loader or use it for tillage equipment.

most tractor dealers have methanol and water solution for tires ,it's not nearly as rusty as calciun chloride. as far as what it's used for ,fluid is not as hard on sidewalls as wheel weights and it'd take a heck of a lot of weights to equal a tire full of water.I've got 3 tractors with filled tires and once you've run them with and without, youll really notice the difference

The calcium is used with the water to keep it from freezing (anti freeze). The water/calcium adds weight which increases traction, just as wheel weights do, just another option for weight.

If it gets loose from the inside of the tube, flats, bad valve stem, etc, then you get RUST AND MORE RUST.

My advice is if you don't need the weight DON'T USE IT!!!!! !!

If you don't need the weight, get rid of the solution. If it comes in contact with the rims it will corrode them and cause you grief. In terms of tire pressure, I just always went by what was on the tire.
