The 6788 brought $10,500 at auction today. Good shape, stored inside, 3000 hours (171 hp). The 3388 brought $9,500 - 2000 hours, stored inside, good shape (131 hp). 79 Chevy pickup with 80k miles brought $4,500! Also there was an M with a beat up F10 loader on it that didn't run for $1600. And finally a 574 IH with the hydralic pump out brought $6,900.

This auction was held in Northwestern South Dakota. I did not attend, the auctioneer is one of the inlaws. We bought a 26 foot Melroe 505 chisel plow for $950.

Hi Steven,
Looks like there was somebody that really wanted that M and 574. Seems like it doesn't matter what kind of shape they are in, they always go for alot of $$$'s.

I guess the good thing about no-till is that chisels are getting cheaper!! $950 ain't bad for a 26 footer!

You'll get done in no time now!

Glad to hear that two plus two's are holding some value,, and still working. I put many hours on two of them, pulling a six bottom 20 inch plow. We even cultivated corn with the 2+2, 12 row cultivator at that, hope spring arrives soon,,,, Bernsy

Phew...I would hate to see the crops after I cultivated with a cultivator that size. I can handle a 2 row cultivator on an Allis G pretty good though, seeing as I can look right down between my knees and see what's going on.

I once visited a huge grain farm in Canada and the owner insisted I drive his articulated JD. I tried to tell him preachers can't drive, but alas, no one listen to the clergy, so he got me to drive it. I never drove an articulated tractor before, and when the back half swung out, I drove right over his roto-tiller. I tried to pay for it, in my embarrassment, but the ol' farmer wouldn't let me. He said, "Hay, you told me you couldn't drive!" I noticed he didn't invite me to drive his huge combine after that. I was looking forward to that, too! Whoa, a preacher in a combine....what a sight!!!

A little pricey for me, that 79 chevy pickup could have more miles on it than 80K, COuld be 180 or 280. What is a chisel plow? I am not a farmer so I dont know these things.

A chisel plow has heavy shanks mounted every 12" and has large sweeps in a V shape mounted to the shanks. We also use them to mount our anhydrous spikes on.

I think some people call them cultivators.

Hmmm, Didnt they also call them a "Duck foot" or just a "Tool bar"? Seems to me Dad always called it a Duck foot. Meybe he was the only that called them that. Looks like you missed out on your "Anteater" deal. Steve T

Yeah, forgot that some people call them tool bars. I'll have to take a pic of ours sometime and post it for the non-farmers. Picture is worth 1000 words!

THOSE TRACTORS WENT CHEAP! WE USED TO HAVE A 3788 "OLD UGULY" THAT WAS A GOOD HORSE. THE CAB DOORS ON IH 86/88 SERIES TRACTORS SUCK TO GET IN AND OUT OF THOUGH. THE DOORS OPEN THE WRONG WAY.

CHEAP??? We figured we would buy the 6788 for around $5000 and if we didn't get that we figured the 3388 for around $3500. Those are the prices the auctioneer figured also. As a comparison for the chisel plow, dealers want $4500 for the same thing in worse shape!

Those tractors were really cheap around here. A 67 will bring 15-19,500 any day and a 33 will bring 10-12,500 with no trouble. But that is a long haul to get them to Mich.
