For all the books I have read & so on did not realize there was these hyd.'s on them. I take it the lever on the RH side engages it and pressure & return are coming from these two 90 deg pipe fittings.. it's a "48" so should have 850 psi? Are they "usually" dependable pumps? and what else do I need to know? Thanks Keith

To use a double acting cylinder you can put a breather cap on one end so it acts like a single acting. But it's a little better to run a hose back to the filler plug (it's above the outlet on the right side). That way you pull less dirt into the empty side of the cylinder and reservoir.

Steve C and The Red gave you good information. What else you need to know is: use NON-detergent SAE 30 oil in it, and the dipstick that came in it is apt to be missing. I don't remember how much it holds; probably around 5 quarts or so. Hydraulic fluid may be used instead of SAE 30, but it tends to be thinner at higher temperatures, so you may lose a little pressure if using it.
The front port on the left and the port on the right side are on the same circuit. The rear port on the left side is a "delayed" circuit, designed to lift after the front circuit so it lifted rear cultivators at roughly the same place the front units were lifted when operating in 3rd or 4th gear. If the front ports are capped, the rear port lifts without delay. All three ports are OUTLET, and are used with single-acting cylinders. The hydraulic system lifts, and gravity lowers! No extra return line from the cylinders is needed; just a "breather valve" in the end which does not receive pressure. Oil flows from the port to the cylinder when the control rod is pulled, and flows back from the cylinder to the port when the rod is pushed all the way forward. When the rod is left in the half-way position with the little tab on the bottom of the rod hooked on the support bracket, it will hold pressure in the cylinder. There should be a little spring clip on the bracket to hold the rod in place when it's in the middle position. These springs have a fairly short life and yours may be missing. Be advised that if it's missing, a hard bump in 4th or 5th gear can "jump" the control rod out of position and lower the load when you don't want it to! For double-acting, or two-way cylinders, you need some additional valving. This can be done; do a search for info on this site if you want to know more about that.
If the oil is kept clean (always clean the connections well before coupling and un-coupling the hoses) these systems will last a long time. I have a '49 M with a pump that hasn't been apart since we got it '52, and it's still a good one.

To expand a little on Red's comment. All three pipes are both pressure AND return pipes. Fluid returns back to the same pipes it came out of. The system is single acting only, which means one way force on the cylinder only unless you add a control valve. To add a control(spool) valve, you supply the control valve from on of the three supplies on the lift all. the return from the control valve is piped to the fill opening on the lift all, or back to the drain hole of the lift all. They you lock the lift all control rod in the lift position so fluid circulates through the control valve all the time.

They are pretty dependable pumps. I have a super h that has 3 point work good, they are 900 psi so they don`t leak much but you need to use a big hydro cylinder with them. steve

Keith the two pipes on the clutch side and the one on the brake side are all outlet pressure pipes. The lever on the brake side is the activation lever for the liftall. Unless the pump had been switched out, yours should be roughly 850 psi.

I have an additional question (Steve T)

I bought a 1950 "H" about 2 months ago and havent orderd a manual for it yet and have a quick question to go with this post. Does the pump run any time the clutch is engaged or can it be turned off like the P.T.O. and belt pulley? My "H" appears to have the original pipe plugs still in place and the oil still looks clean. If the pump runs all the time and has never been used, then what are the chances that the pump is in good shape? Its been too cold to play with it and I don't have a presure gauge to see what it has for presure yet. I was going to ask the same question that Keith asked and now I dont have to. Thanks for the answers. Steve T

The belly pump only runs when you let out the clutch. It runs whether the transmission is in gear or neutral.
