Good friend of mine had his 1958 Cub stolen this weekend.I was in a barn with the door closed but not locked. He had some kind of an aftermarket seat that didn't go with the tractor and a new 12 volt battery. They took the seat off and the battery and left them behind. He had a four wheeler and a 1 year old JD lawn tractor and tools and fishing gear that they never touched.I think who ever did it new just what they where after and when he would be gone.I wouldn't be surprised if they don't plan on stripping it down and selling the parts on E-bay. It was a real nice origonal condition tractor. And no he didn't have the serial number written down.So lock em up boys, there is crooks out there.

Two weeks ago I awoke around 2:30 in the morning and when I came downstairs I heard a motor running. So I peeked out the back door to see a pickup with a trailer sitting in front of a couple my farmalls. There were two guys standing at the backside of the A, and a third person was sitting in the truck. The ramp on the trailer was already down. So I went and got my old trusty M-16 and went out for a look-see. Well I don't know if the rifle scarred them or the sight of me looking like baby huey standing there in my underwear. The two guys jumped in the bed of the pickup and off they went, sparks just a flying from the lowered ramp. I tried to get the tag number, but they had covered both the truck and trailer tags. I contacted the police, when they arrived I told of what had taken place only to be told by one of them that there was noithing that they could do about it as nothing had been stolen. My girlfriend told them that I had gone outside with a loaded rifle to stop them. When they heard this they wanted to lock me up for having a weapon that had a 30 round clip in it. After that was over I took every kind of number that I could find on all of my tractors and made a list of them. I also added pictures of each tractor to the files. Ya never know who may want to BORROW your tractor, nor what time that they wish to pick it up. Only problem is that they would probably have stripped it and sole the parts.

I know a fellow that caught guys stealing gas from his tank one night. He went out with his .22 fired a couple of rounds in the air to scare them off. They got away with some gas, and he got fined for reckless endangerment.

haha yeah its ashame because the thieves need proper punishment, dont they chop guys hands off in some countries for stealing little stuff, if only America followed in that: steal bread = lose hand, steal tractor = take bullet, haha i guess its not that eazy anymore, too many laws protecting crooks, reminds me of that Brooks and Dunn song, "Only in America"

What part of the country do you live in, Light Sleeper? Pretty scary to think what some will do to make a few bucks! Our society is "farther down the tubes" than many would like to think. Time for an old fashioned religious revival and rethinking how we raise and train people and teach the difference between right and wrong. Too many young ones are being told by the "educators" that there is no RIGHT and WRONG answers, just "tolerances" for others. How WRONG THOSE EDUCATORS ARE.

Ron, I'm an educator and I don't stand for BS from any of my students. Sometimes I feel like an island, but I don't let up. It's some parents that are lacking in example, moral character and fiber doing the damage, which then breeds back in itself. Politicians and business leaders in our country say it's the public schools that are failing, but THAT is BS! Just go to school for a day and see what we have to deal with--it would wake you and anyone else up pretty fast. Some days it's scary to see how "infected" these kids are from high pressure advertising, M-TV, violent movies, "attitude", self-indulgence and gratification and their whiny parents that challenge the discipline system. The key is parents who give a rip. I teach study skills to the bottom end of our HS population. Deep down these kids want to do well, it's just that no one close to them ever expected or demanded them to do so. If they could grow up on a farm I'll bet things would be different and you know it too. My job?--keep plugging away at it and be happy with the few who come around. My $150.00 worth...

Bleedinred, Plenty of truth in what you said. I was a bit overkill in my post. I do know there are good educators out there, and, as you say, many parents are the whiners and don't-care types. Keep up your good work to influence those you can. Thanks.

Ron, how right you are. I woke up one night some time ago, wasn't sleeping to well and glanced out the window and to guys are flashing a light in my van windows. I slowly opened the door and hollered is their something you need help with? At that point it was elbows and you know what scrambling to get out of each others way, going like a streak down the road. Well when the sheriff got here, same thing. Well they didn't steal anything, not anything I can do. End of story. You know I told him that if I ever caught them again out there he wouldn't have to run to fast to catch them because they they will both be using crutches. He didn't like that to well, but I told him I really didn't need his opinion either.

He didn't have the serial numbers written down??? We live out in the boonies and never had anything stolen and I have serial numbers, license plates, identifying characteristics, etc. written down. I mean right down to the serial numbers on the double hitch for our drills! Anything that is worth more than 100 bucks is documented.

Hope for the best, expect the worst.

I have been reading all these comments, and can agree with most. I live in the mountains. Nearest paved road is 6 miles. Had one experance with problem. Reported to sheriff, same crap. When voting day came around I didn't forget. I spred the word. Needless to say, we got a new sherif. I have also received a new reputation. At the gate is a sign that says (Do not enter if not invited. This deer shoots back)
