I'm thinking of putting a 12 volt Delco alternator on my H and wonder how to wire it in if it is a single wire alternator.

I installed a single wire conversion on my H and it works GREAT! I didn't include an ammeter in my circuit(just left it out since the original is for 6 volt system). The single wire goes directly to the + (positive) battery terminal. Then you have to "shunt" the field, start the tractor and let it run for a couple of minutes to "activate" the one wire alternator (check your instructions that came in the kit or with the alternator). You can check voltage between the Positive and negative terminals at the battery and should get 13.6 to 14.2 volts for a properly operating alternator (bring the engine off idle or it won't be operating within range).

Connect the wire to one side of your amp meter. The other side of the meter goes to the battery. This is a simple statement and my experience is with a Case VAS, so I hope there are other replies.
