The sliding clutch seems to be working fine, but as soon as you put a load on it, it will pop out of gear. There is a little play back and forth in the shaft. Do I need to replace the bearing at the rear plate? Or what do I need to do. All suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks Ed

There are several things to cause the PTO of a Cub to slip out. It could be the ball detent, worn shifter, bad bearing, bad splines (what I had on mine and ended up replacing the transmission shaft). You need to take it out and see which of these things is the major cause. Roger
