IH 2414 utility

I'm considering buying an IH that the seller identifies as a 'IH 2414 utility' - it has turf tires on small diameter rims, and a gas engine - I'm thinking it would be a dedicated mowing tractor for my fruit farm, running a OC 80" pull behind 'Woods' mower -

I'm not familiar with this model would solicit comments from anyone who is -

how old is the tractor? would all of this model have live pto? is this gas engine a good one? what about the rest of the mechanical? - pros/cons? -

I'll be putting a couple hundred hours a year on it - the price is right -

thanks -

I have a 2424 Lo-Boy which is the 2424 utility with the smaller rims and wide wheelbase. Similar to the 424 but with a shuttle Forward Reverse which is really nice. Cheech and Chong would have loved it! Mine has a loader and the low center of gravity with extra wide wheel base makes it the safest and most stable tractor-loader I've been around. I like mine a lot although it's ugly as sin. I don't know if a 2414 Lo-Boy was made or not. Many of the utility models aren't listed in the ag tractor sites.

My 2424 does not have a live PTO, which the 424 does have, so you might check with the seller on that since you're not sure what model he has.

thank you Larry - a lot of what I needed to know - a lack of live power would be a deal killer for my use -

I find concievable that the seller has the model right, and a "2414" maybe indicates a different transmission, or some such distinction -

there is a post over in the "Help Identify" gallery to the effect that the tractor is "...British junk...stay away..." - - I don"t sense that is your experience -

thanks - David -

DAvid,

The 2424 - 424 series is American, but the 414 may be English. I don't know much about the 414 or 2414 which may be very different, even the PTO setup may be different. The seller should be able to tell you if it's a live PTO or not. A 2424 Lo-Boy just showed up on eBay (with tires in the extra wide position, by the way). Check out number 140129956040 if you want to see what I mean by ugly.

I use an overriding clutch with mine when I run the brush hog with my 2424.

Could it be a International 3414? The 3414 was the industrial version of the International 414 with a intergral frame designed for backhoe/loader.

Harold It could be but I think the engine in the 414 was a "154". The engine in the 2404 was a "135" at 37hp which is the hp the add says. It is interesting how the seller dosn't know what he has. The individual that I got my 2404 from thought it was a different model.

David. I own a 2404. That is the only IH tractor I own. The other one is a Ford. The 2404 has the same equipment as the one you are quoting. Go to the Photo gallery and do a search for a 2404 and see if the pics match. Did the add say if it had a Hi-Lo or a shuttle trans? If you could post the pic to the photo section perhaps someone can identify it. Or find out the serial # of the tractor and get back to me.

Very good, Hugh - I see you like a project also - Your tractor appears similar, tho this one of Jeff Foreman's has the same rubber as the one I'm looking at in the add - the one for sale is sheet metal challenged similar to yours - and the fenders resemble neither picture -

Link

the seller made no mention of what transmission -

I'll see if I can figure out the picture posting proceedure - I have the add copied to jpeg - I guess I'll title it '2404' so it will be easier to find - thanks - D

Don't find a 2414 listed under IH. But, I do find a 2414 Power King which is a small economy tractor with about a 14 HP engine. Could that be the tractor? Any one else know if IH made a 2414?

hello, Hugh - - the add says '37 hp' - dual remotes, PS, 3pt, PTO, "runs and operates great" - along with a grainy B&W pict -

I'll give the guy a call in a day or three, I just like to do a bit of research beforehand - it's a bit far away to travel on a whim and kick the tires -

Are you familiar with the '2400' series?

thanks for your interest - D
