Patrick, type in cotton picker in the search box and go to item 50. Mike in CA has pics posted of the unit.

If tractor was indeed cotton picker tractor it was a low drum picker or axle housings have been changed, high drum axle housing have flange on ends to bolt on drop housings, low drums were not high clearance. Low drum pickers were reversed internaly by flipping ring gear high drums were reversed in drop axles. If gear shifter is in normal position it will go foward in 1 thru 5 gears if frame cover has dual shifter positions and shifter is on opposite side from normal tractor it will travel backward in gears 1 thru 5.

Might add that some of the very last high drum one row pickers were mounted on regular clearance tractors without the drop boxes, have only seen one and it was on 1943 M which means it was a dealer installed picker.

To quote JayWalt's last post on that topic....

"That’s one hell of a beautifully interesting monstrosity =)"

I hope my gearbox goes FORWARD instead of backwards when I put fresh power in it!

By the way, so you think I should go with one of the 248 kits in the regular M section?
Do I need to get my serial numbers or do you think the late serial number kit (w/stepped head pistons and 4" bore sleeves) would work?

No you can go with a 264 kit it just has to be for a straight M. Super M sleeves will not fit in an M. They do have kits for the M that use the 4 inch Super M pistons. The Super M can be taken to 281 CI, but not the M without reboring the block.
