strip a piece of wire.. take a copper strand and chase alllll lll of the orfices and air bleeds... any crud in any of them will cause inability to adjust the carburetor properly... It's just one big balancing act so you have to get everything weighted correctly...

And how do you get that wire out of the that orifice after it becomes lodged and breaks off?

These old carburetors are much more complex than most folks realize, and are not so easy to rebuild. Simply installing a "kit" usually accomplishes nothing. The reason to rebuild a carb is because it is dirty, dirty, dirty. You need to clean, clean, clean.

I have heard of guys putting a table spoon of oil in each cylinder after a carb rebuild in order to enhance ring seal and increase suction from the carb. Once, I placed a small amount of gasoline in each cylinder to get one started after a carb job. It did the trick. mike

I soaked my 300 carburator in cleaner for 4 days, washed it up, blew it out with air and thought it was clean but wouldn't start (no gas to cyl). Took it back apart and found the main jet was still plugged. Dave

Is it heavily corroded or just looks like it has seen better days?
Sometimes they just don't take the kit and you have to go with a new one.....
