My 350 utility gas started to lose power due to a broken exhaust valve lifter. I replaced it and also the push rod and the same thing happened in the same position. So, I figure that the lifter cell is out of round or the block is chipped (can't feel that it is missing much material). Is there some way of boring the block and inserting a collar or something to accomondate a new lifter? Or is my only chose a different block? thanks

thanks, for all the replies. The cam looks and feels good (smooth and not wore). I did not pull it. The exhaust valve is not stuck and seems to move up and down freely when I push on it with the heel of my hand. I did not get the head reworked as it ran well before the lifter broke. The main and rod bearings all looked in pretty good shape and the engine used no oil so I decided not to pull the head. I did have the oil pump rebuild. I replaced the lifter and push rod with original IH 350 parts that also broke. The last time I put it together I set the valves at .17 with a light pull. thanks again.

`If you had the head redone , check the valve
guide height , if it is too high the retainer will hit and cause the push rod to bend and very
well could break the lifter.

What does the cam look like... did you look at the whole circumference of the lobe?

Is the valve stuck or bent?

And do not forget valve guide to valve stem clearance which will cause the above stuck valve.CENTAUR
