On my 450 I am finding that when working the tractor without the PTO on, I am getting oil coming out the PTO breather. I assume transfering from the transmission. Any ideas on what seal is leaking? Can it be changed on the tractor or do I have to break into the transmision?

Now if ya don't want to get into it for a spell there is this old back hills way of solven the problem . get a pipe nippel that is about 4 inches long and a pipe coupler , pull the breather out screw in the nippel and add the coupler then screw the breather in and go . when the rear seal starts to leak then pull the PTO unit out and fix both at one time.

Remove the oil level check plug and drain out the excess oil.

Depending on how long it take to start coming out the breather again, you can decide wheather or not you want to change the front seal in the PTO assembly.

thanks for the info. If I do change it I understand the PTO will come out as a complete unit just becareful with the coupling when putting in back in. Have you done this before?
