Made a cooker yesterday. Seven narrow stainless strips around a 32 gallon trash can hooked together with copper wire. I used 15 ounces of Arm & Hammer /Powerfully Clean/ Naturally Fresh/ Clean Mountain /with Activated Baking Soda Deodorizer out of the laundry aisle with 30 gallons of water. Sixteen hours of cooking @ 6 amps and what a suprise. I'm going to let it smolder until tomorrow. Sure beats wire grinding. Trying to send a picture. David.

Gene, one tablespoon per gallon of water. The store I went to only had this brand and I couldn't ask for better results. I'm sure the main ingredient is sodium carbonate. David.

I have heard that using stainless as an anode will make your electolyte toxic with some kind of chromium derivative. Scrap steel will not do this and works just as well.

I started a tank about a month ago. I have had excellent results with mine, although I used about 10 times too much soda. I was told to use Washing Soda. Found in laundry isle, but not baking soda. Not sure which you used. Hey if it works, what the heck!!! I just wish I could get my Super H hood in there, gonna be a tight fit. I started with a 50 gallon plastic drum. There is tons of information if you do a search on this site.
