My cutout relay is bad and I was going to replace it with a new voltage regulator. Can I use the 4 position light switch with this regulator or do I need to upgrade to the 3 position light switch? Also, will a VR mounted on the generator fit under the hood of a 42 H? Can I still buy a new cutout if I need to and from where?

be sure you get the correct regulator for the gen. There should be a plate with the DELCO REMY #. Get the regulator for that# and the instructions will tell you how to hook it up.

Your New VR will work with the old system as follows
Disconnect the wire going to the lights sw from the gen. That wire now is attached to the F terminal of the New VR. (12ga wire) The Arm. or A terminal of the VR is attached to the A terminal (bigger) on the Gen. (10ga wire)
The Bat terminal on the VR is attached to the nonbattery side of the amp meter. (10ga wire)
the light switch will work only in D or B and have no effect in L or H positions. If the VR has a L terminal it can be ignored for this application. Good luck, JimN

Thanks a lot Janicholson, that helps alot. I really didn't want to search for a new switch.
