Going to look at a tractor this afternoon. a 460 Utility. Don't know what to look for so any thoughts would be great! Owner said paint is decent 70% rubber Don't know tire size, TA is strong. I don't know anything about this type of tractor. I had a Super M. Do these come with 3 pt., live pto, live hydraulics, was there a gas or a diesel available? How do I check TA for problems? AS YOU CAN READ, I NEED LOTS OF GUIDANCE! Lot's of knowledge on this forum! He's asking $3000. I don't know the hours either.

Help!

Butch

We also have a 460U. Its a 59 gas, with a loader. (brand unknown) Fast hitch with adapters. It was a fence row tractor (parked because the owner thought the hydralic pump went out) We have only had it a couple months. Got it running and finally got the junk out of the hydralic fluid. It had sat with water in it so long the primer paint inside flaked off and kept plugged the filter. Much easier to get on and off than our rowcrop 460.

 (460) check list-long post in reply to Butch WI, 04-24-2007 03:12:24
Mornin" Butch. Lool to the left column of this web-page under "Research & Info" and click on the "Serial Numbers" link. Research 460 and jot down year and serial numbers to identify the year when you look at the tractor. Then I would add: check oil level and take a sniff before starting the tractor. Check for fluid leaks under the 460. Coolant level, sediment bowl clean; gas tank cruddy on the bottom; hydraulic fluid level; now start the tractor. Check rear rims for rusting through due to corrosive action of fluid. To operate the TA, while driving tractor, give a steady-even pull back to "engage" the TA and "release" the TA the same way, an even push forward of the arm, don"t operate the clutch when doing this! Gauges operating, i.e. good oil pressure; electrical system charging; tack/hour meter operating and accurate hours; gas gauge operational; temperature gauge may only show a "cool" reading if it is like 240/340"s I have owned as they seem to run cool. Gauges are available if gone/not working. Operate all the hydraulics. Do they release and the system not "whine" indicating there are problems with relief valves/screens/pump "hanging up". Stand down wind from the tractor when warmed up and "smell the air" for something that just don"t seem right. Any manual(s) included; chains; other implements available. I also like to know the history of the tractor, i.e. who owned it, where purchased, previous owners, etc. if this is available, that"s just me. Sometimes on this board folks have posted trying to "track down" a particular tractor. I also like to leave my contact info in case sometime down the road, a person finds something that should have gone with the tractor, implement...You will find a lot of great information in the "archives" area of this site - Farmalls, implements, etc. along with knowledgeable folks who can give advise/comments/humor to this Farmallitis affliction. Good luck and keep us posted...pun intended.

Hey butch;

I am also the proud owner of an early model 460 international. I've had only a few problems with it other than some hydraulic issues. These tractors came with fast hitch, which is similar to a three point and I use three point implements with mine via the use of adapters. These tractors are available in either gas or diesel ( mine is a diesel), live hydraulics,and live pto. The TA on mine is working however I've never it put to a pull that requires it, use it mainly for bushogging and other light chores ( a seven foot bushhog is light duty for this tractor ), and find that it is a good, powerful, easy to use and easy to get on unit (power steering is a must for this tractor ), and other than the aforesaid hydraulic issues, I love my old international, it just needs to be worked harder than the uses I put it to. Tom
