Hello all,

This might have been posted somewhere else, but i am short of time. I have the chance to buy an old IH farmall 706. Everything about it is what i need except the three point hitch. It is a fast-hitch. I need a cat 1 or 2 3 point. Are there 3pt arms that go into the fast hitch? Can someone illuminate me on how the fast hitch worked?

Thanks!
Anthony

There are adapter arms for the fast hitch to make it fit 3 point implements. Ours for the 806 have an offset for them that allow them to be used on either cat I or II implements by switching the adapters between left and right arms, making it wide or narrow. The problems are that it still will not fit newer implements that are designed for "category I or II" because the distance between the pins is neither cat I or cat II, and is instead somewhere in the middle. It works fine on a 3 point, as the arms pivot inward and it will make up for the narrower mounts. However, a 2 pt is a fixed width setup, and it will not fit. Also, as mentioned before, the 2 pt with adapters will still not lift quite as high as a 3 pt.

The original fast hitch was a great idea, and was designed to allow the tractor to hook and unhook implements without having the operator leave the tractor seat. Every implement had a set of prongs sticking out parallel with the tractor instead of the 2 pegs sticking out perpendicular to the tractor for the three point. The tractor (without the drawbar inserted into the 2 pt.) would back up to the implements, the prongs would slide into the arms and the locks would drop when it was inserted all the way. Then the operator would pick it up and drive off. IH marketed it by having operators square dance with tractors and then switching implements when told to by the announcer.

I have Worksavers adapters for my 706. They are around $200.00 but worth it IMO. They will give you more lift and the balls are drill for Cat. I and II.

You just back into the FH prong, it goes click and off you go.

Would that work for me? Do i have to weld a bracket onto the tractor for the top link? Are there any other good suggestions?

Thanks!

If your 706 doesn't allready have the bracket for the top link you should be able to get one from a tractor salvage yard it just bolts on the back. I have a 706 with fast hitch and a 756 with 3 point. I like the fast hitch because I still have some fast hitch equipment. I have not had any problem with it not lifting high enough.

Tony,

Those center link adaptor brackets bolt on in place of that rear cover plate.

While "functional", don't think you're not going to like that adaptor outfit.

They don't lift very high and are a real bugger to hitch and unhitch. Better than nothing, tho.

My 856 had the fast hitch. I used the adapter arms and the center link and it worked very well with all the 3 point equipment I owned or could borrow. I did have a problem with the chisel plow not lifting quite high enough, but the local IH dealer told me to remove the lift arms from the rock shaft, and reinstall them in the 3 point position rather than the 2 point position, and that solved the problem. Everything worked great, and the draft and depth controls functioned just fine as well.

You have to have implements designed for the fast hitch or you can get adapter arms to make three point implements work. You can order those off the net. Search fast hitch, then click on fast hitch ebay and sroll down it will show you the arms you need.
