Super C hydrolics

I'm having trouble finding the fill location to put hydrolic fluid in my 53 Super C. I think it has factory hydrolic setup. I've had a slow leak so I know this is my problem. I just can't find the fill location.

Thanks!

I have one that does the same thing. It is leaking through the pump seal and back into the engine. The engine oil level keeps coming up. I actually drained some out one day. Use motor oil in the pump reservoir until you can find/fix the leak, and check the engine oil level.

On the left side of the lift unit right behind the lift arm is a plug that looks like a big nut take it out and fill to within a half inch of top. Before putting plug back in cycle the lift 4 or 5 times and it will bleed out any air in system

If you fellas were not on this forum... I'd be totally lost.

I checked the fluid, but it did not seem to need more than a few drops... no bubbles after I cycled it several times.

The lift would begin to come up but not clear the ground with an implement.

Do I have a more major problem if the fluid seems full and I'm still getting no lift?

My rubber boot on the little lift mechanism is in need of replacement... (sources?)

Thanks very much!!!

Georgeky is correct, as usual. But with his kind permission, I'd like to add a couple of things:

(1) Be careful removing that plug! Sometimes there is a little residual air pressure inside the reservior and you can get it in your eyes! Hydraulic fluid is toxic, so be careful!

(2) Where is your leak? The hydraulic fluid is also lubricant for the pump. If you run the tractor with the fluid low, you can damage the pump. Fix the leak if it is at all convenient.

(3) This one will be controversial. Use genuine IH Touch-Control fluid. I used something else once and the paint immediately deteriorated inside the reservior!

Thanks everyone for the tips. I'll track down the leak and fix it, and try to find the subsitute fluid at NAPA.

Thanks very much!

Hambone, any good nondetergent motor oil will work. The original owners manuals called for SAE 10 nondetergent oil during cold weather, 20 thru 30 wt as temps increased. I use it in all my old farmalls, and have never had any problems in nearly 40 years.

There is no such thing as "IH Touch Control Fluid." It's been discontinued for at least 30 years, maybe longer. HyTran is the modern equivalent.

Oh, yeah. in reply to Nat 2, 04-20-2007 11:49:35
I do believe your right, of course. The stuff the dealer sells now is Hy-Tran.

I was having a senior moment.
