Does anyone know if the 450 was available as a cotton picker? If so what is the difference in rear end of it and a Hi-Crop.

I have a 450 that was set up for a cotton picker. They seemed have been very common out here in Arizona cotton-country. As to your other question, mine has the flange on the outboard ends of the rear axle housing and I seem to recall from the parts manual attachments section, that the High-Crop used the standard axle housing to bolt on the drop set up, or, maybe a special axle but I am fairly sure they didn't use the flanged housing. I hope this helped, Tom

That is what I was confused about. This one has the flanges you spoke of, that is why I suspected it may have been a cotton picker. Also it is in New Mexico was another reason I was leaning towards a cotton picker.I suppose it is a little rare either way it is a diesel.

The one we are looking at has rear axles like a cotton picker and a single front wheel. I can't read the serial tag. The steering wheel is set up as a tractor, but is missing all traces of a seat. I was trying to find out if it could be a high crop instead of a cotton picker.

I stand corrected, you got me curious because I did see the attachments in my parts book so I went back to look. Besides the MV drop axle, it shows a drop axle cotton picker version, attached to a flanged housing. I know you are having trouble making out the serial number but can you see any suffix letters? F & G were 2 of the cotton picking attachment letters. Mine also shows a lot of wear on the front frame rails where the cotton picker attaches.

No I can't read any of the tag. My book says F means 7 mph 4th gear and G is for high 4th and low low 1st. It is showing X 20 for cotton picker.

Yep, you're right, my bad, I was looking in my Super M parts book. Anyway, it does sound like a good find. Did you buy it? Where is cotton harvested in New Mexico, down along the Rio Grand towards 'Cruces?

Not yet. I don't know where cotton might be in New Mexico, I am in KY. A friend is looking at the tractor and sending me pics of it. We were hoping it was a Hi crop. since it is a diesel.

The MV series has a wide front end. I suppose someone could have put the cotton picker front end on it, but from the location of the tractor it is probably a cotton picker. I live in Kansas, and don't know why there would be an MV/450 hi crop in New Mexico -- but stranger things have happened.

CNKS, that is one reason, I was leaning towards a cotton picker. All the HI-CROPS I have seen have had a wide front end on them. I have never seen a 450 with a cotton picker on it. I didn't know if there were any or not. Just hoping this is a HI CROP tractor. If it is a cotton picker I would want the picker to, and there is no cotton in KY that I know off.
