When I start my 1066 the power steering won't work or the Hyd assist on the clutch. After a minute or so it will start working. Also when I depress the clutch and if I am on any kind of incline I cant get it out of gear. The red light that used to come on when I depressed the clutch donesn't come on any more. This all started happening after I had the tractor split and and had the pto seals replaced. What do I need to do? Thanks, Ricky

Well what is happening here is (1) the sump check plug is not seating and allowen hyd. oil to drain back , (2) you clutch linkage is out of adjument along with the dump valve , (3) if ya had the MCV off did you loose the littel spring for the sump check plug? (4) did you get all the O/Rings put in . (5 ) if ya had the MCV off and ya did not TORQUE all the bolts to Spce's then you may have blowen a gskt. in the MCV and will now need to be taken apart and cleaned and inspected and all O/Rings and gskt.'s replaced . For the clutch adjuments go back into the archives and look them up as i have a fool proof way that i have posted many times on here as tryen to do it by the book does not work on older tractors with ware on the linkage but the way i have layed out works .

Ricky,

Look for the simple stuff first.

Does that light even come on when you first key it up? If not, maybe they just left the wire off the sender or the bulb needs replacing?

Second, does that tractor "sing" at you from under the seat when you first start it? The no hydraulics when first started is the classic "plugged filter/bypassing filter" symptom. Can't tell you how many times I've got a tractor back from the shop having major work done to it and they don't even bother to replace that filter.

I agree with the other guys. That clutch linkage/dump valve/transmission brake needs adjusting to free up your shifting.

Allan

On your first problem, it sounds like your MCV pump is losing prime. Did you have the tractor split between the clutch housing and the range transmission housing? If so, it sounds like you forgot to install the o-ring that seals the oil passage from the filter housing to the MCV pump. You"ll need to resplit the tractor to fix that. Second problem, your dump valve linkage is out of adjustment. Purpose of the dump valve is to disengage the direct drive clutch pack in the TA by dumping the oil pressure out of it when the clutch pedal is depressed. This prevents the "wind-up effect" of being in direct drive and TA at the same time, which makes it difficult to get the transmission out of gear. When the pressure in the TA circut is dumped, so is the lube circut pressure, which causes the red light to come on. Get yourself a good manual, fix the missing o-ring problem, then adjust out your clutch pedal free travel, dump valve, trans. brake, TA, and shift linakges exactly to the letter and she"ll shift like new.

If the problem is an air leak between the clutch housing and rear frame you can compensate for the oring by adding an additional 5-7 gallons of oil above the full mark on the dip stick.
