Im not very familiar with international tractors but when i was at a dealers lot i swear i saw a 5488 with a 540 and a 1000. I told a guy and he said im seeing things. i checked tractor data .com. and it only lists a 1000. Sorry for going on but i was curious if they had both.

The dealership I worked at during the 70's and 80' s would order these tractors less PTO and we installed a dual speed units at the dealership. We also did it for the 1466, 1468, and a few 1566 tractors.

As far as I know, the 5488s left the factory with only a 1000 pto, but it was possible to install a dual 1000/540 pto setup that would fit in the 5088 into the 5488. A large dealer that we do buisness with was actually installing a dual setup when these tractors were being sold.

the 52 & 5488 came with the 1000 pto.
you can install the dual set up for
around $2100. so you may have seen
one the was swapped out.
