Yes, if you don't put it in the ground.

Thanks for all the responses, I'll just have to try it out this spring and let you all know!

The only way your going to know is hook up and try. Soil conditions vary so much around the country. Plowing depths vary almost as much. All of these factors will affect how much plow you can pull. I used to pull 3 x 16 with Farmall 300 or 504. Later on went to 656D and pulled 5 x 16 semi mount. I have always plowed 7 to 8 inches deep. I have heard of a 656 strugling with 4 x 14 in heavy clay. I now just play around with my Super A and 130 one point hitch, I pull 2 x 14 plow.

Around where I grew-up plows pulled really hard. One spring I watched the neighbor pull two #60 or #70 IHC 4-16's, one with a brand new 4020D w/Powershift and the other with a 756 Farmall with the German D-310 diesel. The 756 was running faster than the 4020! Course i also heard the 4020 later was pulling 3-14's in some REAL NASTY sod that hadn't been plowed for years... Dad tried 5-14's with His 4010D with the 4020 Kit in it. We had better performance after We pulled the back bottom off. Could run in 5th in corn ground and 4th in old hay ground. True 4020's could run a little better because they had the Diff. Locks.

One thing I have not seen mentioned is how deep do you want to plow. If you skim along at 3 or 4 inches H will probaly be OK. If you drop down to 8 inches or more H will have to struggle in most soils. Just my 2 cents.

If the plow is an IHC #8 3-bottom You can pull the rear bottom off and replace the tail wheel and make a 2 bottom out of it. That's what I'd do...

Pulled a 3-14 genius plow in a sandy loam soil with our W4 but it has the over bore sleeves and high dome pistons with a gas head. pulled in 2nd gear.

Around here (central Indiana) it would pull it fine - down the road! In lighter soils, it likely would if it had enough weight.

my grandpas big tractor was a farmall h for his whole life and it also served as my fathers big tractor for several years and believe it or not they did pull a three bottom plow in all types of soil with little to no problem. and for those of you waiting to ask it is a 14 inch bottom plow. hope this helps.

Northern Minn and NW-Wisc have lots of "peat" soil which is decayed plants. It's very spongy and light. In some areas the "ground" has been known to burn when very dry. Northern Minn and NW-Wisc both have many Peat-bog areas. I think Cranberry growing areas are somewhat like this also? It's not a high clay soil. Hope this helps. ralph

You might be able to remove one of the blades so you will have a 2 bottom plow

Olaf, a three furrow was usually considered a plow for an M or a W6, two furrow for H or W4, but it all depended on the type of soil and the width of the bottoms...in the old days 10 inch and 12 inch were common..14 takes a bigger pull...Mike in Exeter ontario

the FARMALL H will pull 2-14 if the hitch is adjusted right and the correct tires on the rear 3-14 will only work in a light soil and not too deep rule of thumb 12hp per bottom

You might do OK in real sandy soil. An H does a lot better with 2-16's.

It will do a great job till you trip the rope (or use the hydraulic to let it down).
