How do you charge an 8 volt battery?

I am working on a friend's tractor. It is set up on a 6 volt system. I noticed he has an 8 volt battery on it. My battery charger (and every one I have seen) is either 6 or 12 volt. Mine has manual, trickle or automatic 2 or 12 amp choices. 6 volt will not fully charge the battery and 12 volt seems too hot. Any suggestions?

Thanks

You need a source voltage higher than the battery voltage to do real charging. If you can afford it, go to a Radio Shack or other electronics supply and buy a DC power supply with variable voltage adjust. The small AC/DC power adapters will do just fine and they are not expensive, but you will have to get proper connectors attached to it so they can be clipped onto your battery terminals. Set the adapter or power supply to approx 10 volts and let it charge your 8 volt battery.

From what I know and have heard about 8 volt batteries, you should charge it with 6 volt charger and be sure that your regulator is set to kick out at around 8.5 to 9 volts, that is how the battery gets fully charged.

I believe a generator can produce anything from 6 volts to 12 or maybe even 24 volts if you set the regulator for it.

My Super C is set up the same way. I use a 12 volt trickle charger and it seems to work fine.

I used to use a 6 volt charger.
