Hello,

I want to make a three point hitch for my 300 row crop. Yes, I know I could go buy a saginaw hitch, but that's a lot of dough! (especially when you're way over your restoration budget). Does anybody know what the lower arm lengths for a catagory 1 3pt? What size pins are used? I work in a machine shop, so fabrication is not a problem.

I am currently in the process of designing a 3pt for my 53H. I am going to copy, loosely, the design of an existing aftermarket design. I will incorporate a two cylinder design, opposed to their single, and also I am trying to devise the hydraulics to be a power/up power/down system with constant flow of fluid. I beleive this can be accomplished with the proper valves. I will let everyone know as soon as possible, but my work schedule & honeydo projects will extend this somewhat. See Ya in a couple months, please forward any ideas.

I built my own 3 point for a small Allis tractor. Like you said 50% is knowing you did it yourself and 50% is the money. I bought two lift arms at farm stroe for $45 each. They are 32 inches long center to center and have 7/8 hole both ends. You get the swivel sockets that way. Upper arm is 3/4 inch hole. I bought a cylinder at a farm sale for $25. The upper arms, rocker, angle iron frame, pivots, etc i made all myself. The biggest problem is to get the geometry right so it will lift and have adequate power. Not a bad idea to look at a few, or see a few pictures on the internet to get a "start". It really is not a bad project if you can weld and have some machine shop access.

It's alot of dough. Shipping was $200 to north Idaho. I'm a machinist, but still opted to buy 2 Saginaw hitches, one for my 300 and just put one on the Super C. When you start figuring a couple of 100 for cylinders, the 3rd link, the cost of steel, not including your time, the Saginaw hitch ain't such a bad deal after all.

The lift arms on my 3 point are 34 inches long. The lift arm pins on a cat. 1 are 7/8 but for a 300 I would go to cat. 2. With bushings you can still use cat. 1. Your best bet is to find somebody with a 3 point and take measurements. I can send you more info if you need it.

I am hoping you get more response than I did. I asked the same question just recently. If I wanted to spend a ridiculous amount I would go buy a Saginaw. The pride in making it yourself is a big part too! I had one set of plans for a generic 3-point e-mailed to me, let me know if you would like them as well.

I'd be interested in seeing those plans. The saginaw unit is built really well. I just can't afford the 600 bucks, when I still have to buy tires for my tractor. I know it will be a lot of hassle, but my "time" is free!
