Long story made short. Moved back to the country and discovered my city generator is way to small to handle the well, electric hot water tank, etc, etc. I am looking at a 25Kw PTO generator. How much PTO horse power does my 300 Row Crop have? All the links to HP listing seem to be dead. I need 45 to 50 HP, I'm sure it doesn't produce that much, but if it's 40hp then I will keep my old girl (gotten way to attached to it). If not then what is a good 50 HP tractor to look for..

Thanks
Dave

the pto ges are great but, my fear is votage+ frec
all depends on the gov of the tractor. low volts or out a frec is bad. water heaters do not care, look up the spec sheet on the sub. pumps regarding gens running them. a genset- well a factory unit, they can be real good for backup. i buy sell used gensets. lots of them out there, old ones too that will hold frec wonderful, volts to +-2.0 on 120, way better then the power company
thats the only fear if ya undersize the trac, pull to much, things can go nigth night

HI Ron, The genset I am buying is from Voltmaster. They have a new voltage regulator that is suppose to keep it in line Plus or minus .6%. Hopefully this is true. The guy that drilled my well used a 5kw generator to test pump the well, Hopefully it is able to handle it. I will check in the morning with the well driller. Thanks for the heads up. Dave

on to the tractor out of the picture- ih put puts have a very nice heavy pto. 300 on up, not going to get into color bashin, what can happen wrong tractor, tractor starts hunting, drive line flex+ a little resances factor, your frec is all shot.
under no load to light load the gov should bump once, light to heavy load only once- thats bottom line. other wise the little ac or freezer is tring to lock on- stay in sync, gets feed 51 cps then 68 cps then 60 cps then 48 cps - you get the pic.
i could write pages bout this stuff, funny story
while back was a real big farm, milkin with a double 18 parlor, big kato light alt there kw ? single phase. blue tractors big ones nice ones. and one old junk 186 hyrdo. well guess what was hooked to the alt- not the nice tw35. me a smart @33 ask why is that old thing on the gen- was told
them ford things are no good on that alt?i already knew this fact.
if ya worry talk to any good motor shop, they will tell ya why better then i can
my tw0 cents

My question would be: what is the average and peak load demand? You would not want to run a 25KW generator at full load 24hrs/day 7days/week either unless it is made for it and most are not. Most generators are intended for about a 70 or 80 % duty cycle with occasional peaks at full load. I assume you need this generator for emergency/power outage use?
I would hook it up and try it out on the 300. Check the voltage at the pump when it runs and if it doesn't go down more than a few percent when running off the generator, you should be OK.

If my calculations are correct, I shouldn't be pulling more than 12Kw continously,it will have occasion to burst up to 20Kw when the Airconditioner kicks in - but that should only be a burst. I went with the 25KW due to the burst rate for the airconditioner. My main gaols in the winter is water pump, furnace, lighting, grarage doors, refrig, and freezers. Summer is the Air conditioner... I hate to sweat at night... I think I'll try it out based on all I have seen, it should do well. I was originally concerned that the tractor was only 30 HP PTO. At 40 HP, it should be matched for the 20KW burst rate. If it doesn't, then I have a reason for the 450....

If You study the IHC service manuals enough You'll find that when used for continuous duty the engines were de-rated by 20%. The H engine was the U-4 industrial engine and was only rated for about 22-25 GROSS HP at 1800 RPM. Even though Your H could possibly have more PTO HP than that You wouldn't want it to run that hard that long.

I think You'd be better off with a 450 on that generator. Plus it would make a nice companion for Your 300.

The story our electrician gave us, was that you needed 2 pto hp to run each 1 Kw of generator. Therefore, it would take 50 pto hp to run your 25 Kw generator properly.

Not that I recommend it, but my Farmall A will run quite a bit of the farm on our 35kw generator. At least in the summertime it will run the TV's and fridges and the well. Winter is another story - when every tank heater, etc. is plugged in our 1086 will bark on the generator. 1086 was putting out 145hp on the dyno when overhauled and I bet it has more now that it is broke in. Those generators take a lot of power.

I don't think you should have any trouble with your 300 if you don't have too many tank heaters.

Steven's right--you shouldn't have any problems and should make the ol'girl bark once in awhile. We lost power this summer and I ran the whole place with the "H" on a 20KW generator but "ya" didn't have everything on at once but the usually was on and then others made the "H" bark but I was very happy only using 50 gals. of fuel for 4 1/2 days running.

I have a 300 too. I think the belt/pto HP is 40, and the drawbar HP is 30. So you should be good with that pto generator.

Thanks, I had just found a link claiming it was 45 HP, but they were trying to sell the tractor. Clearly it will be working her to run the generator, but that's what she needs everyonce in a while...

Thanks
Dave
