I've just found a Farmall model 340 with a Paulson loader and a back blade. As near as I can tell from the serial number it's a 1958. The tires are fair with a bit of checking. The sheet metal is good with a few small dings. The paint is faded badly as the tractor has been out in the weather. There is a small piece of sheet metal missing from the lower part of the dash. It started right off and sounds good when running. The steering "catches" once in a while while driving it. Is the asking price of $1000 fair?

Better grab it up....if you subtract the value of the back blade, and loader that does not leave you with much at all in the tractor.

OK, where is the tractor located. If you do not want it, I know someone who would love a 340 for $1,000!

Sounds like a bargain to me if it runs good and has a loader.

Thanks fellas....I asked around a bit from some locals and also checked out all the info I could find at the YT site. I went and picked the old girl up. I figure to keep the snow removed with it this winter and then in the spring I hope to get it inside for starting restoration. It sounds like parts might be hard to come by.

As far as the steering catching I have a 504 with a loader. The 504 is basically a souped up 340. I had to overhaul the steering gearbox. The seal had started leaking and let the big bearing go bad. I blamed the extra stress from the front end loader on a tricycle front end for creating the problem. I then put on a new Schwartz wide front end which transfers all the stress to the tractor frame rather than the gearbox. Good luck with your tractor and your restoration project.
