Super C PTO

I am rebuilding my Super C and am currently replacing seals in the PTO. When I pulled the PTO unit, I noticed the 49 tooth gear on the PTO shaft is missing most of one tooth.

I have mowed (brush hog) with the tractor recently and did not notice any noises or problems.

My question is…should I replace the gear or keep using it? I plan to mow with it but that is the hardest use the PTO will see.

Thanks for your help.

Mark

J3nut: I'll suggest you use a long handle magnet to fish that loose tooth out of the bottom of there. Some times a loose tooth can be picked up by oil and get lodged in a very bad place.. and much more damage will result. R.

If you can located one easily, I would replace it. Sooner or later more teeth will break out until you have junk. Check your IH dealer, some of these gears are cheaper than you might expect...

I would replace it also. Those teeth could do a lot of damage to the rest of the rear end if one got in the wrong place.
