Super M running poorly

My Super M is running on only two cylinders now. I just put two new plugs in cylinders 2 and 3 but it made no difference. If I pull the wires on 1 and 4, it dies. The plugs and wires seem good. I also noticed that oil started leaking out of the exhaust manifold for those two cylinders. Any suggestions?

Are you sure you have the firing order correct or could be bad dist. cap.

I'd look for ignition problems first. Suspect the distributor cap or wires, pull the plug and watch to see if it sparks. If that's not it check the compression in 2 & 3, could be a head gasket.

Oil running out of the manifold sounds like you should pull of the valve cover and have a look. Could be a bent push rod and the valve(s) are not closing. You may also want to do a compression test to see if all the cylinders are the same. In addition, anything running out of the manifold suggests a leaky manifold. If there is a leak in the intake side it can cause the tractor to miss - the two that are missing are together and could be affected by the same leak.

It is the exhaust side. It sounds like a lawn mower. I'll see if I can get the valve cover off.

My initial observation would be that you have bad plugs or plug wires on 2 and 3. Had it been running on 4 and this just happened or what? What spark plug are you using?

I was running Champion 502 (D21). I swapped plug wires between a good and bad cyclinder and it did not matter. I went to a nearby AGCO dealer (CASE/IH is further away) and they recommended a hotter ACDelco C86. Those showed a better spark when I have out of the engine but made no difference when I put them in. It still dies if I pull off the 1 and 4 wires. The other two make no difference, i.e. are not firing as far as I can tell.
