My Super A has a "Rockford" clutch. The other option was the "Auburn" clutch. Both are shaped different.

The best I can tell is that they were just another supplier of IH parts. They otherwise were virtually identical in performance and specs. I can't explain why IH decided to point it out in the serial number sufffix, maybe one of the former IH workers can explain.

I am under the impression that the idea was so you would know which type was in the tractor before tearing it apart. That way you could be sure the right parts were on hand. In practice, I don't think it helped much for several reasons: 1) When you tear it apart, you still might find the other clutch (even from the factory), 2) If you were replacing the whole clutch, either one would replace the other, 3) If you were just changing the disc, they would interchange on many models anyway.

Most of them are but every once in a while you will run into and overcenter clutch and they are the hand clutch .
