I have a '49 Super A. The long rod that connects from the belly hydraulics to the rockshaft has a terrible bend in it, and it's rubbing the fender. How's a good way to straighten it so it looks half way decent?

I have a 51 with the same problem. It was staightened out several times, but every time there's upward pressure on the rockshaft the bend comes back. I finally had a steel bar welded to the center section between the original bends. It's not pretty, but it does the job. Just today I visited a farmer with a 140 and noticed that he had done the same thing.
Good luck with your fix.

David A of this forum told me to do this:

>>Hey Tyler,
Regarding that bent rod, I found an easy way to straighten it. Mine was also bent to the point of hitting the fender. Take the rod off and use it like a pry bar up against the drawbar. You can also stick it through one of the holes in the drawbar and pry. The tractor makes a good immovable object to pry against. The bar should have two bends in it, one near the front and one near the rear. You will see them. This job took me about 15 min. Now it is perfect.

Nyles,
No joke, a BIG hammer. Remove the rod and support it on an anvil or other heavy metal surface and using at least a 4 lb. hammer, take out all your frustrations on the rod! Seriously, you'll either have to do something similar to that, or use heat to ease the straightening process.
