I removed the starter, cleaned the commutator, oiled bushings, etc. It worked fine on the bench and one time on the tractor. Now it won't turn over at all. I measured less than one ohm resistance between the copper "hot" terminal and the case or "ground". Any ideas?, please. This starter is 50 years old and never let me down for the last 25 that I have owned it. Don' tell me to switch to one of those ugly green tractors now! Thanks!

Yesterday I had the same problem with my model C Farmall. I have mostly JD's, but this C is usually a reliable starter. The problem was in the battery terminal connections. They were badly corroded. The starter just smoked at the connections to the battery. After cleaning the battery connections up nice and bright, the tractor starts without the starter turning a full revolution, I bet. Try that - clean the battery connections and I will bet the tractor returns to it's old spunky self. Hope this helps.

Are you sure the starter switch is making contact with the button. If the copper button on the starter under the switch is worn, the switch may not make good contact with it when you pull the starter rod. I think one ohm resistance from the button to ground would be normal, since there is just copper windings there, not much resistance at all.
